Treating GERD and Acid Reflux with Yoga and Diet

Treating GERD and Acid Reflux with Yoga and Diet

Gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD is one of the most common digestive disorders in which the ring of muscle between your stomach and esophagus gets affected. A person suffering from GERD or acid reflux may feel nausea, belching, heartburn, or regurgitation. Some people may also experience discomfort in upper abdomen, bitter taste, or dry cough. These symptoms vary from person to person.

Now the main part comes- how to treat GERD or acid reflux without medication?

Treatment of GERD or acid reflux is possible with the right diet and proper exercise. Before discussing the GERD treatment, first understand why it occurs.

The GERD or acid reflux is a result of indigestion. When your digestive fire (Agni) is too weak and you hardly exercise, the issue of acid reflux gets bigger. Here, Yogymummy will share a few tips and right yoga poses to treat GERD or acid reflux without any use of medicine.

Agni is a source of life. It takes care of all metabolic functions in the body. The food you eat gets digested through this fire (which is boosting your digestive system). Imbalanced or weakened Agni leads to indigestion.

With yogic diet and yogasanas, you can treat the acid reflux issue and become regular at your job. Here are some natural remedies to treat GERD without medication-

1. Turmeric tea with pure Ghee

If you are serious about your GERD, try this remedy. You just need to boil a cup of water. Once the water is boiled, add 1/2 tsp of turmeric to it and a tablespoon of ghee. Let it sit for a few minutes. Drink the lukewarm turmeric tea first in the morning. After an hour, eat your breakfast. This recipe is also great if you are looking for weight loss.

2. Milk with pure ghee

Milk with pure ghee acts as a soothing agent for GERD or acid reflux disease. You can take some nuts like almonds and walnuts (soaked) with milk and ghee in the morning. After an hour, you can take your breakfast and get ready for your work.

3. Fennel water

If you feel bloated, fennel water can be your saviour. Just brew a tsp of fennel seeds in a cup of water and let it set for a few minutes. You can sip this warm cup of fennel water to ease your bloating.

Things to do if you are suffering from GERD-

1. Eat in small portion

2. Eat when you are hungry

 3. Eat frequently (the gap between your meals should not be more than three hours)

4. Eat healthy- well cooked or boiled food that boosts Agni.

5. Eat slowly and chew the food properly

6. Include stear clear soups into your diet.

Which food you should avoid in acid reflux?

Fried, full-fat dairy products like butter, cheese, and sour cream, fatty meat of pork, lamb, or beef, ice cream, potato chips, spicy meals, creamy sauces, high fat salad dressings, spicy and creamy dips, etc.

Which fruits you should avoid in GERD?

Citrus fruits like grapefruit, oranges, lemons, pineapple, tomatoes.

First of all I would like to say great blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you do not mind.
I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing.
I’ve had difficulty clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts out there.
I do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally
lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin.
Any recommendations or hints? Many thanks!
