Transform Yourself This Diwali With Yoga and Pranayam

Deepawali is a Sanskrit word that means a row of lights. It’s a festival of lights, and yogis celebrate it by igniting their inner spirit. According to Hindu Mythology, when Rama finally completed his fourteen years of vanvaas and returned to his kingdom, people welcomed them by lighting diyas. It was a dark night; but with the returning of Rama, darkness was defeated. During his vanvas, he wandered in the forest with his younger brother Laxman and Sita (wife of Rama). He battled with demons, rescued Sita from Raavana (King of Sri Lanka). This victory is celebrated by whole Ayodhya when the trio returned to their own kingdom. It is a story that tells the supremacy of light over darkness.

You can celebrate this spiritual diwali by cleaning and purifying your inner-self with pranayam, yoga asanas, and yogic kriyas. If you are just a beginner and want to experience spiritual significance of deepawali or diwali festival, practice these three yoga asanas and nadi shodhan pranayam. Let your inner glow tells the significance of diwali festival in your life and encourage more people to join you in this journey.

Our body has many chakras but there are seven important chakras that every yogi should know. These chakras are-

  1. Muladhara
  2. Svadhishthana
  3. Manipura
  4. Anahata
  5. Vishuddha
  6. Ajna
  7. Sahasrara

For inner glow and fire, manipura or third primary chakra is what you need to activate. The Manipura chakra has ten petals in which Sanskrit letters ‘da’, ‘dha’, ‘na’, ‘ta’, ‘tha’, ‘da’, ‘dha’, ‘na’, ‘pa’, and ‘pha’. The seed sound in the center is ram. Fire is the element of Manipura chakra which is shown as a red triangle in the image.

This Manipura Chakra is located above the navel and within the solar plexus. This is linked with fire and the transformation power. Manipura chakra manages digestion and metabolism in the body. Those who often suffer from indigestion, or those who want to promote healthier adrenal function, pancreas-kidney can practice yoga asanas to activate Manipura chakra for the same. Weak Agni (fire) within the coeliac plexus results in indigestion of food, thoughts and emotions, and thus, the body accumulates ama (toxicity).

How do you activate the Manipura Chakra?

Yogymummy brings three asanas to activate your Manipura Chakra (Solar Plexus Chakra). Let’s learn them one by one-

  1. Triangle Pose (Trikona Asana)
  2. Cobra Pose (Bhujanga Asana)
  3. Lotus Pose (Padma Asana)

Starting with Triangle pose or Trikon asana, open your legs wide. Now, open your right foot on the right side. Slowly, breathe in and bring your right hand down while keeping the waist and chest straight. Raise your left hand up towards the sky and see your left hand. Hold the posture along with the breath and then release the posture and breath.

Next is the Cobra pose or Bhujanga Asana. Most people don’t know the correct way of doing cobra pose. Yogymummy is here to tell you the steps of bhujanga. Lie down on your stomach and keep your toes outward. Bring your hands aside your chest and breathe in and raise your upper body till navel. Keep our elbows little bended and without raising your shoulders.

Many people get confuse with the pose and do upward facing dog pose. Both are different yoga asanas and should not be mixed with eachother.

The last and simple one is lotus pose or padma asana. You need to sit on the floor and keep your back straight and open your legs apart. Now, slowly bring your right leg towards your thighs and rest it there. Do the same with left leg. Hold the posture and make chin mudra.

You can perform nadi shodhan in this posture. To learn how to do nadi shodhan, follow the link.

Hope you will enjoy this spiritual diwali 2020 with these asanas practice and pranayam.
